As the magnificent seven strutted their stuff on stage and flashed their dance moves to the swaying crowd, over 200 Japanese journalists scribbled down notes and took photos, reflecting the country's strong interest in the band.

Core Contents Media, which represents the group, said that demand for tickets had exceeded even their wildest expectations, with almost 100,000 people applying.

In the press conference before the concert, the girls said they felt it was important for the band to distinguish itself from other K-pop and J-pop groups.

"We will highlight our friendly image, just as other [successful] girl groups like Girls' Generation and Kara have established their own identities [for Japanese fans]".

They also expressed hope of expanding their horizons in Japan.

"As in Korea, we would like to be active in TV series and entertainment show programs [here]. We also want to hold concerts at large venues such as the Tokyo Dome".

T-ara will officially release their first Japanese album in September.
