[HanCinema's News] "Exhuma" Clears Ten Million Viewer Mark

Over the last weekend, the occult horror film "Exhuma" cleared the ten million viewer mark, becoming the first film to open at the South Korean box office this year to pass that milestone. As of this writing, "Exhuma" has 10,299,214 admissions after thirty-three days of availability, having earned its ten millionth viewer in its thirty-second day. The movie stars Choi Min-sik as a veteran exorcist who takes on an expensive job moving a mysterious coffin from an accursed plot.

With Kim Go-eun and Yoo Hae-jin in supporting roles, "Exhuma" had no shortage of veteran talent. But the film is an especially notable showcase for Lee Do-hyun, who until this role had been best known for playing romantic leading men. Lee Do-hyun is almost unrecognizable in "Exhuma" as a priest with a modern hip-hop look and a body covered in tattoos of Buddhist sutras. "Exhuma" was the first film role ever for the twenty-eight year old actor.

"Exhuma" is currently being released in international markets throughout southeast Asia. Most recently, it premiered in Thailand on March 26th. "Exhuma" is also still touring the film festival circuit in Europe, though rights to many of these markets have already been sold, and will be appearing at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival as well as the Udine Far East Film Festival in April.
