Veteran singer Baek Seol-hee ― also known as the mother of musician Jeon Young-rok and grandmother of T-ara member Jeon Bo-ram ― passed away at 3 a.m., Wednesday, Yonhap News reported. She was 83.

Baek had been suffering from high blood pressure and other health complications since the end of last year, and her condition had recently worsened.

Born in 1927 as Kim Heui-suk, she debuted as a member of a performing arts troupe in 1943. She went on to become one of the most sought-after singers of the 1950s and `60s, with hit numbers including "Spring Days Fade", "The Riverside Hill Where the Waterfowl Cries" and "A Night When Green Grapes Bloom", among others.

She was married to the late actor Hwang Hae, whose real name is Jeon Hong-gu. Their son Young-rok and his ex-wife, actress Lee Mi-young, had a daughter, Jeon Bo-ram, who is currently a member of the popular girl band T-ara. Baek's family is thus recognized for having three generations of musicians.

Baek's funeral altar has been set up at Asan Medical Center, Seoul. The funeral cortege is due to leave on Friday for a burial at Samseong Park, Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.
