Application animations must be works, which were completed since July 2, 2004. Its application is from May 16 through June 13.

Aside from its acclaimed Official Competitions and non-competitive Showcase series, featuring the cutting edge of contemporary image-making, it will also present an assortment of retrospectives and special screenings.

OIAF 05 SPECIAL PROGRAMMES will include Pee Wee's Playhouse Animation: The first ever retrospective of the groundbreaking children's show, Pee Wee's Playhouse, this programme will showcase a diverse collection of animation from the show produced by noted animators including Nick Park (Chicken Run), Richard Goeslowski (Rex the Runt), and Craig Barlett (Hey Arnold!).

Curated by noted animation historian, Jerry Beck, this tribute to the Pink Panther is a retrospective first and will be presented on the heels of the release of Beck's new book on the character, along with the latest incarnation of the popular feature film series, this time staring Steve Martin in the title role. Beck's programme will present the ten best Pink Panther cartoons from the 1960s and feature an essay on the development and evolution of the character.

Slovak Animation: While the Czechs tend to get most of the animation spotlight thanks to Jan Svankmajer and Jiri Trnka, the Slovaks haven't exactly been slouches. In collaboration with the Embassy of Slovakia, Ottawa 05 will present a survey of the contemporary Slovak animation scene and have invited Slovak animator Michal Struss to attend the Festival, introduce the program, and serve as a member of the international jury.
