The Host Successful in China and US

"The Host" has the scoop of becoming the first Korean film opening at the top of the box office in China. The film earned about US$ 630,000 in its first week, according to The Host's producer Chungeorahm Films. The film was released in China under the title "Monster of the Han River".

"The Host" also enjoyed a fairly successful opening weekend in the US, especially when taking into account that the film was shown on a modest 71 screens. When looking at the performance of films based on the earnings per screen, The Host came in eighth. Bong Joon-ho's film ranked 23rd with a revenue of US$ 320,000 over the weekend. The US distributor is Magnolia Pictures.

Kim Ki-duk's 2003 "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring" is the most successful Korean film in the US. The film was released in US cinemas in 2004 and went on to accumulate US$ 2.38 million.
