"The Handmaiden" First Korean Film to Win Best Foreign Language Film at BAFTA

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced that Park Chan-wook's "The Handmaiden" was chosen as the Best Foreign Language Film winner at the '2018 British Academy Awards'. The British Academy Awards is a guide for judging the direction of the American Academy Awards in the film industry, and it is the first time a Korean movie to win an English Academy Award for Foreign Language Film.

"The Handmaiden", which is based on the British writer Sarah Waters' novel "Fingersmith", is based in the 1930s during the Japanese Invasion about a maiden named Hideko (Kim Min-hee), who inherits a tremendous fortune, a count (Ha Jung-woo), who is after this fortune, and Sook-hee (Kim Tae-ri), who is asked by the count to join his schemes. "The Handmaiden" was in Cannes in 2016 and it was awarded an American LA Critics Award.
