The Front Line top winner at Korea's Grand Bell Awards

"The Front Line" won Best Film at the 48th Grand Bell Awards on Monday, Oct. 17. In addition to this top award, director JANG Hun's Korean War drama snapped up a total of four awards - Best Planning LEE Woo-jung, Best Lighting for KIM Jae-min and Best Cinematography for KIM Wu-hyeong.

The film is about North and South Korean soldiers battling over a small patch of mountainous terrain and the complicated relationships that grow between them. The Front Line is also the Republic of Korea's entry to the Academy Awards Foreign Language Film nominations.

In the Grand Bell Awards Best Film category, "The Front Line" was up against "Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon", "Sunny - 2010", "The Unjust", and "The Yellow Sea".

Director Kim Han-min's box office hit "War of the Arrows, (a.k.a. "Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon") also picked up four awards - Best Leading Actor for Park Hae-il, Best New Actress for Moon Chae-won, Best Sound Effects for CHOI Tae-young, and Best Visual Technology for HAN Young-woo.

Director Kang Hyeong-cheol won Best Director with his sleeper hit "Sunny - 2010" about a group of women who reunite as part of a dying friend's wish and in the process, remember the heady and dangerous days they spent together in high school and what pulled them apart.

Best Actress went to Kim Ha-neul for her performance as a blind woman in the thriller "Blind".

Best Supporting Actor went to Cho Seong-ha in "The Yellow Sea" while Best Supporting Actress went to Shim Eun-kyung in "Romantic Heaven".

Independent film "Bleak Night" also picked up two awards – Best New Director Award for Yoon Sung-hyun and Best New Actor for Lee Je-hoon. The film previously won the New Currents Award at the Busan International Film Festival last year and also competed at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
