The 4th Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival raises its curtain

The 4th Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival raised its curtain on June 23 in CGV Yongsan, Seoul with the theme, entitled "Beyond the barrier of genres".

Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival (MGFF) is one of the most prestigious short film festivals in Korea. MGFF differentiates itself from other short film festivals by trying a new concept that short films can also be categorized into a genres.

In other words, the basic idea of MGFF is that it would be interesting and fresh to view short films within the genre tradition and also to read against the grain at the same time.

MGFF proudly presents a variety of Korean short films annually under the catchphrase of "Beyond the Barrier of Genres". The festival is held every June in Seoul, Korea.

MGFF was originally initiated by 'Director's CUT', a committee of established young Korean film directors, who are well-known for their innovative and stylish films that audience loved nationally and internationally.

Two selected committee members, who specialize in a certain genre, take charge of each category of genre and choose one finalist in each genre. The Film Festival has 5 general sections of films that expand the boundaries of their respective genres: Social Drama, Melodrama, Comedy, Horror & Fantasy, Action & Thriller.

The main objective is to support and promote talented young Koreans in the field of filmmaking and to serve as a platform to help them jump up high. Secondly, it is to make the festival interesting and pleasurable for the audience by presenting short genre films which reflect the various aspects of our society and also the passion of young filmmakers.

This year's opening night was decorated with 'Moving Self-Portrait 2005' as well as 'Comic Wave'. Plus its opening night, the 4th Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival consists of National competition, International Invitation, Programmer's Spectrum, and Special Section: Face in Cut.

The 4th Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival presents 16 international short films. From romantic comedies to situation comedies, the Film Festival invites the audience to join the wave of various comedies in 'Comic Wave'. The ghosts also invite the audience to their creepy, scary, but sometimes cute, human world in 'Ghosts Return'.

What's more, this Film Festival introduces Programmer's Spectrum, divided into two sections. These two non-competitive sections invite great Korean short films: either of a certain genre or with the same material. This year, the sections are 'Melodrama with a Recommendation' and 'Space, Sympathy'.

With Face in Cut, a section of very short films(max. running time:120 sec.), the 4th Mise-en-scene's Genres Film Festival opens its door to amateur filmmakers and general public to share the pleasure of filmmaking.
