Thai TV broadcasting company's advertising income soars with Jewel In The Palace

The advertising income of the Thai TV broadcasting company has greatly soared with the airing of Jewel In The Palace ("Dae Jang Geum").

Channel 3, a TV broadcasting company that introduced Jewel In The Palace ("Dae Jang Geum") in Thailand, reported that its first-quarter advertising income increased by 35% to 1.49 billion baht compared with 1.1 billion baht it had earned in the same period last year, according to a Thai paper on May 12.

An analysis showed that this result was due to the recent trend in which Korean Syndrome TV dramas have taken the heart of viewers.

Jewel In The Palace ("Dae Jang Geum"), for instance, was first aired in mid-October last year and was a record-breaking hit, and its rebroadcast this year is attracting many business advertisers.

The net income of BEC World Company, which runs Channel 3, in the first quarter of this year was 426 million baht, showing a 184% increase compared with its earnings of 153 million baht in the same period last year.

The company's total net income last year was 881 million baht, showing a 45% decrease compared with the figure of 1.6 billion baht in 2004.

Thanks to the major revamp of its morning and primetime TV programs, the company began recovering since the final quarter last year, and such recovery would continue this year, BEC World Company said.

Since last October, Channel 3 has been airing Jewel In The Palace on Saturday and Sunday evenings, which has become tremendously popular, and the drama's recent rebroadcast during weekday mornings continues recording a high rating, a report said.

Jumping in on the 'Fever of Jewel In The Palace', airwave TV broadcasting companies, including Channel 3, have been airing Korean TV dramas to get as much slice of the TV viewing market.
