Taiwanese Writer Discusses "Hallyu" Boom in Taiwanese Children's Storybooks

Li He (李赫), a Taiwanese novelist who works in publishing circles, has pointed out the "seriousness" of "hallyu" in the Taiwanese publication field in addition to the impact of the Korean cultural boom in the entertainment world.
Li made the comments in an article entitled "A cold wind called 'hallyu' rises in the field of publication", which was carried in the Taiwanese daily "Zhongguo Shibao (中國 時報)" on August 24.
He cited the wide-ranging presence of Korean books in the Taiwanese publishing circles that are based on a fresh and markedly different cultural background as well as exquisite artistic designs. Li expressed astonishment at the themes, illustrations, and artistic designs of children's storybooks from Korea. He said, "Taiwanese readers believe that Taiwanese bookstores are overflowing with Korean books these days".
Meanwhile, the novelist credited the Taiwanese government for having invested 50 billion Taiwanese dollars in the digital industry over the last five years, with a strong focus on the entire cultural industry. He urged those in the digital industry to take an interest in the field of publication, as the digital and publishing industries are mutually complementary and inter-dependent.
