Summer Movies Get Special Effects Boost

Summer vacation has kicked off with plenty of CG laden blockbusters like Transformers 2 and the latest installation of Harry Potter.
Not to be left behind, Korean producers have also prepared their own special treat of special effects, adding a touch of imagination and just the right amount of humanism into the mix.
A quiet village is shocked with its first crime in 10 years: an undiscriminating, brutal homicide.
The culprit turns out to be a wild boar.
A group of five set out to catch the man-eating boar, each with his or her own different motive.
A spectacular hunt ensues, one where you can't be sure who is doing the hunting.

[Interview : Uhm Tae-woong, Actor in "Chaw"] "They put a lot of effort into the computer graphics. The boar is a really nasty monster. You'll just love seeing it".

Of course the best part of "Chaw" is the mutant boar itself.
Hans Uhlig, one of Hollywood's visual effects masters, took on the job of bringing the monster to life.
The Korean team that produced the amazing graphics for "D-War" were brought in to lend a hand too.

During the hot summer season, "Haeundae" is the most popular beach in Korea.
And here we find Man-sik, born and raised in Busan, acting something like a guardian angel for Yeon-hui, a girl who is tough on the outside but soft on the inside.
And then there is Kim Hwi, a marine geologist, who has more interest in tidal waves than his own family.
Hwi is surprised to see his ex-wife, and even more to meet his daughter.
He didn't even know she existed.
As the emotional turmoil slowly settles, an unexpected storm starts brewing up at "Haeundae".
Are blessings always accompanied by a curse[Interview : JK Youn, Director of "Haeundae"] "Could a disaster movie work in Korea, would any actors be willing to join "Chaw" and "Haeundae" have set a whole new standard for films enhanced with computer graphics.
From now on, quality visual effects are a given.
What makes the difference is a solid storyline and interesting characters.
