Those who have followed the wedding of two of Korea's most coveted celebrities ― Jang Dong-gun and Ko So-young ― two weeks ago might have wondered how Kathleen Stephens, U.S. ambassador to Korea, was invited to the wedding. What would be her connection with the couple?

The answer was the bridegroom, whom Stephens encountered shortly after her arrival.

"We met at a charity event for breast cancer in Seoul. It was a charity marathon held at the World Cup Park, western Seoul, in October 2008.

"It was nice of them to invite me", she continued. "I saw him in 'Taegukgi: Brothers of War' and "Friend" and he's great".

For the ambassador, the high-profile actor was remembered as a quiet benevolent celebrity.

Jang is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nation World Food Program, another thing Stephens knows him through. "He (Jang) just came back from Haiti", she said.

Haiti was completely destroyed by an earthquake last January.

She attended the wedding in a yellow dress and a scarf of the same color. She seemed pleasantly surprised about the good response to her outfit.

"It is 20 years old", she said with a laugh. "One Web site did choose the best dressers (among the guest), and I was the fourth".

The ambassador also commented on Ahn Sung-ki, another actor who sat next to her at the wedding.

"He is like a senior actor. And everyone came up to him to greet him".

The highly publicized wedding took place at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul.
