South and North Korean films set to screen in Frankfurt

A film festival featuring films from both South and North Korea will be held during the Frankfurt Book Fair from Oct. 17 to Nov. 9 in German cities such as Frankfurt, Offenbach and Wiesbaden, according to Euko24, an online news for overseas Koreans.

Films from the South will include "Address Unknown", "My Little Bride", "A Single Spark" and "My Mother, the Mermaid". The North Korean films will include "Prince Hodong and Princess Nakrang", "Our Fragrance", and "A Girl Who Sells Flowers".

"Empress Chung", an animation film made through a co-production of the two Koreas, will also be on screen.

"Rather than films that are highly artistic or abstract, we chose the films that reflect well the reality and history of the two Koreas", Lee Eun-hee, an organizer of the festival and an official at the Korean Culture Institute in Germany, told Euko24.

"The festival has been organized to offer a chance to plunge into nostalgia for their home country for overseas Koreans and introduce Korea's culture to local people whose strongest image of Korea is a divided country", Lee said.
