Seoul Film Commission Welcomes New President

The Seoul Film Commission held a very special dinner to honor its new president and the Commission's achievements over the years. Director LEE Jang-ho replaces outgoing President HWANG Gi-seong who has been in the job since the Commission's inception in 2002. LEE Jang-ho was a prolific director shooting around 20 films over a two decade period spanning the 1970's, 80's and 90's. He is well known for the 1987 film A Man with three Coffins which hit the international festival circuit. In addition, after serving as director of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, and as a "socially relevant and commercially successful" director, according to the Korean Film Archive web site, LEE comes with an abundance of relevant experience.

Over the years The Seoul Film Commission has supported over 1,500 films, TV dramas and commercials. As well as this, the Commission has launched publications, coordinated showcases and even created a director in residence programme that has funded 18 directors over the years. The commission also rents out offices at low cost to producers and film makers.

In general, film commissions assist domestic and international productions with location support including the sourcing of locations, crews, other resources and in dealing with a city or region's government. The Seoul Film Commission also offers an incentive programme awarding productions shot in Seoul up to 25% of the film budget in the form of grants. The Commission is a member of the world wide film commission agency AFCI (Association of Film Commissioners International).
