Producer of 'Ladies of the Palace' dies at 75

Drama producer Kim Jae-hyeong, who is famous for creating TV dramas such as "Ladies of the Palace" and "Tears of the Dragon", died Sunday morning. He was 75.
"My father died this morning after failing to recover from surgery he received four days ago due to gastric perforation", said his second eldest son and CF director Kim Man-du. "My father did not suffer from other illnesses. He was active and taught students of the literary creation department at the College of Arts, at Dongguk University".
Kim was born in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, in 1936 and graduated with a major in Korean language and literature. His career began in 1961 at KBS the same year the state-funded broadcaster opened. He was well-known as the producer of "4,000 kms of the Nation", which is the opener of the TV period drama in Korea. The prolific and hard-working TV dramatist directed about 250 soaps and earned a master's in period drama.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. Kim's eldest son, Chang-man is a film director. A funeral service will be held at Asan Medical Center in eastern Seoul at 9 a.m., Wednesday.

'여인천하' '용의 눈물' 등으로 유명한 사극 연출의 대가 김재형 PD(한국공연예술종합학교 학장)가 10일 오전 7시45분 별세했다. 향년 75세.
고인의 둘째 아들인 CF 감독 김두만 씨는 "아버님이 4일 전에 위 천공으로 수술을 받으셨는 데 고령이셔서 회복이 잘 되지 않았고 결국 오늘 아침에 운명하셨다"고 전했다.
그는 이어 "다른 지병은 없으셨고 최근까지도 동국대 문예창작과 석좌교수 등 현역에서 활발히 활동하셨다"고 덧붙였다.
1936년 충북 음성 출신인 고인은 경기상고-동국대 국어국문학과를 거쳐 1961년 KBS 개국요원으로 입사한 뒤 1964년 TV 사극의 효시라고 할 수 있는 '국토만리'를 시작으로 '별당아씨' '사모곡' '한명회' '왕도' 등을 연출하며 40년간 250여 편의 드라마를 연출하며 사극의 대가로 명성을 떨쳤다.
유족으로는 부인과 2남2녀가 있다. 큰 아들 창만 씨는 영화감독, 두만 씨는 CF 감독으로 활동 중이다. 빈소는 서울아산병원에 마련됐으며 발인은 13일 오전 9시.
