PiFan's NAFF It Project 2012: Call for Submissions

The It Project is an exclusive project market for genre films that aims to discover new, promising feature film projects by Asian filmmakers or those co-produced by Asian countries and provide participants with a wide range of production and investment possibilities. Launched in 2008 as a section of the Network of Asian Fantastic Films, the It Project has been very successful in attaining its goal of becoming a growing project market for genre films and supporting new, inspiring projects.

Film projects officially selected for the It Project during the past 4 years tend to have unique stories and imaginative approaches ranging from horror, thriller, fantasy and sci-fi to action and black comedy. A considerable number of these projects have been successfully made into feature films well received by the industry, including film festivals and the general public, and have paved the way for future Asian genre film productions.

Consider the film Forever by Li Lin WEE of Singapore. Selected for It Project 2008, Forever had a double world premiere at the 12th Jakarta International Film Festival and the 34th Cairo International Film Festival in 2010, which was followed by successful theatrical runs of the film in both Singapore and Malaysia. Similarly successful was 8000 Miles 2: Girls Rapper by IRIE Yu, a.k.a. Tsubaki Hime, from It Project 2009, which premiered at the Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival and was released theatrically in Japan in 2010. Both films were screened at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival as well.

As for Korean projects, "King of Pigs" (a.k.a. King of Swine) by Yeon Sang-ho, a 2010 It Project selection, had its world premiere at the 16th Busan International Film Festival and was released theatrically in Korea to rave reviews, earning a cult following in 2011. Two Rabbits in Osaka by Tai-hyung LIM from the 2011 Project made its world premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival the same year.

Numerous It Project selections from 2008 to 2011 are slated to begin production soon and two in particular are about to be completed for release, Daniel CHAN's Smile For Me (Hong Kong) and John WILLIAMS' Arashi: The Tempest (Japan).

Looking forward to another successful run of the It Project this year, NAFF is eagerly awaiting more projects to help lead the way in Asian genre film production.
