Park Yong-ha's Budokan concert draws 10,000 fans

All 10,000 seats in Budokan Hall, Japan's most prestigious concert hall where only top-notch artists are allowed to perform, were filled during a recent concert by actor/singer Park Yong-ha on Aug. 22.

Park was only the second Korean artist (after Cho Yong-pil) to perform on the Budokan stage over the last 22 years. Four hours prior to the concert, female Japanese fans who failed to buy subway tickets to get to Budokan were desperately asking other passengers to sell them their tickets, holding slogans reading, "We want to see the concert. Please sell your tickets to us".

Park, who held his first showcase in Japan in June of last year, said he could not believe he was allowed to perform at Budokan just one year after his debut in that country. Although he has never given solo concerts in his home country, Park has already staged more than 30 concerts in Japan, each drawing 3,000 people on average. The Budokan Hall accommodates 10,000 audience members, significantly more than the 4,000-seat Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, the largest concert hall in Korea.

"I was able to perform at Budokan in such a short period of time because I focused more on singing than on acting in Japan", said Park. "
