[Orion's Ramblings] Lee Yo-won and Choi Gwi-hwa Fight for the People in OCN's "The Running Mates: Human Rights"

Another powerhouse duo is heading our way, as actors Lee Yo-won and Choi Gwi-hwa are officially on board "The Running Mates: Human Rights". Based on a novel and previously titled "Running Investigator" in English, OCN's latest upcoming foray into different types of crime tells the story of a human rights investigator, who has neither the right to open a criminal investigation nor indict the culprits for their abuses.

What we know in terms of characters remains largely unchanged. Lee Yo-won ("Different Dreams", "Avengers' Social Club") is Han Yoon-seo, the fact-focused investigator for the National Human Rights Commission of Korea who hates crossing the line. Choi Gwi-hwa ("Homme Fatale", "Long Live the King") is Kang Ho-joon, an investigator dispatched to the General Investigation department of the Human Rights Promotion Committee.

While violent crimes have been the go-to subject matter of OCN fare, it looks like the channel is joining the rising popularity for the social justice that we see rippling across Dramaland. From series like "Special Labor Inspector, Mr. Jo" to the upcoming "Doctor Detective", we're getting into less personal, more insidious types of crime. Other shows, like "Secret Mother", "SKY Castle", or "Solomon's Perjury" combine the hook of mysteries surrounding violent crimes and death with social and family abuses.

"The Running Mates: Human Rights" has my full attention with this premise and duo. It will follow another example of the gory meeting the social, airing after "Class of Lies" in September.
