[Orion's Ramblings] "Designated Survivor: 60 Days" Starts Off With a Bang in First Teaser

"The National Assembly Building has collapsed!"

This is the line that sets the tone for where "Designated Survivor: 60 Days" starts, and where the duties of our protagonist, Park Moo-jin (Ji Jin-hee), will begin. The newly released teaser for the drama gets right into the thick of it by showing us the bomb attack that will take out the entire chain of command above this unfortunate hero.

The teaser, which has 15 and 20 second versions, shows a crowd noticing the explosion from their subway ride, while a shaken Moo-jin can only run like the wind as the building collapses in the background. This collapse leads to our premise, where Moo-jin goes from his smaller political position to being the country's acting president and trying to keep his people and his family safe. The teaser is short, shocking and effective. We get to see our lead and the event that will spark his crisis.

"Designated Survivor: 60 Days" is a remake, and while I usually worry about how well a work will carry over between different cultures and industries, I think the overall premise can be very successful as a Korean drama. The industry is no stranger to ethical leading characters fighting against Evil Rich Dudes™, after all. I'm excited for a hopefully less formulaic take on the topic, and will be following the series come July.
