[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Lee Seung-gi, Cha Seung-won and Oh Yeon-seo looking great in "A Korean Odyssey" teasers

"A Korean Odyssey" provides a short, but powerful introduction, as we finally get to meet the three leads and learn the basics about them. Lee Seung-gi is Son Oh-gong, a troublemaker monster god. Cha Seung-won is the head of said monster gods and Oh Yeon-seo is someone with the ability to see them, which probably means that they hide their true nature from most humans. The series is based on the Chinese novel "Journey to the West", so that is some extensive source material one can play around with right there.

On a personal level, I'm not sure what to feel about this. I have a love-hate relationship with writers Hong Jeong-eun and Hong Mi-ran. On one hand, "You're Beautiful" is a beloved introduction to Korean dramas and their leading women for "Fantastic Couple" and "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho" are among the strongest (read: well-written with focus and agency) I've seen in dramas of the type and time. On the other hand, it has been a long time since then and the writers' track record is full of personal disappointments.

"A Korean Odyssey" looks like a definite change in tone for the two. Can I hope that the years of inconsistent quality are past them and that the sisters are a bit wiser now? After all, Dramaland and audience tastes have been changing over time and if there is one definite praise I can give the writers is that they've mostly been good with keeping up. We don't talk about "Big" and "Warm and Cozy". Shhh, it's okay. They never happened.

I don't know if I should be trying my luck with the Hong sisters once more, but the story of "A Korean Odyssey" sounds potentially epic, the duo are now on cable television and they have a solid cast to work with. I will probably ignore the call of my wishful thinking and sit this one out until completion, but I will be following the drama's promotion to get a better feel for it. You can check out the short teasers below.
