Online Bloggers Choose 'Wandeugi' as Best Novel of the Year

Online bloggers have selected Kim Ryeo-ryeong's coming-of-age novel "Wandeugi" ("Punch") as the best literary work published in the past year.

According to a recent survey conducted by online bookstore Aladdin, Internet blog portal egloos and allblog on 40 literary works published between July 2007 and June 2008, Punch received 13.8 percent of the votes cast by online bloggers.

The novel, released earlier this year in March, is about a 17-year-old high school student named Doh Wan-deuk who lives with his midget grandfather and stuttering uncle. The book entered the Bestseller list immediately following its publication.

Other novels that received high votes in the survey include "Whoever You Are, How Lonely You May Be" by Kim Yeon-soo (11.9%), "Haak Haak" by Lee Oi-soo, "My Home Sweet Home" by Gong Ji-young and "A Collection of Korean Mystery Thrillers" (5.6%).

Some 23,000 bloggers took part in the July poll.
