Ock Joo-hyun Still Afraid on Stage After a Decade as Musical Actress

Ock Joo-hyun has been a role model among idol stars who seek a career transition after their young glory days. It's been over 10 years since she changed her career from a girl group member to a musical actress in 2005, and now she is one of the most sought-after actresses.

Ock had concerts celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut in the musical scene in January and the live album recording sold out instantly after its release.

"It's been more than 10 years since I became a musical actress, but I'm still afraid to be on stage", she said. "The more I get to know about the musical, the more things there are to think and be careful about. Actors share a moment of life with audiences in a theater, and that makes me feel both grateful and fearful at the same time".

Ock, who is currently appearing in the musical "Sweeney Todd", said she doubts there will ever be a moment that she feels comfortable on stage.

Set in 19th century England, the musical thriller revolves around barber Sweeney Todd who seeks revenge on a judge who destroyed his family, with the help of Mrs. Lovett. The two leading roles are double cast, with Cho Seung-woo and Yang Joon-mo and Ock and Jeon Mi-do.

"I always wanted to perform with Cho, but he just joked that I am too tall for him", she said. "I'm just so happy to finally get to work with him".
