From the Creators of "Haeundae" and "Ode to My Father" Comes an Unforgettable Film about a Band of Men's Perilous Journey to the Peak of Mount Everest

"The Himalayas", an inspiring and heart-wrenching South Korean film based on true events, is premiering in Los Angeles (at CGV Cinemas in L.A. and La Habra) on Friday, December 18, 2015, followed by a wider North American release on January 1, 2016 in New York, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Vancouver, Toronto and more. The film is presented by CJ Entertainment.

Based on a true story, "The Himalayas" follows a South Korean expedition team and their harrowing final mission to bring their friend and teammate's body back from the treacherous slopes of Mt. Everest where he died. Uhm Hong-gil (Hwang Jung-min) and Park Moo-taek (Jung Woo) were climbing partners and best friends – and members of the14th team to ever scale Mt. Everest. After this herculean accomplishment, Hong-gil's team largely disbanded into other careers while Hong-gil himself was forced to retire from adventure sports due to an injury. But years later, Hong-gil learns that Moo-taek has gone missing at the summit of Mt. Everest. In memory of his friend, Hong-gil draws the team back together and sets out to bring home the fallen body of their beloved teammate.

Starring one of the finest actors in the Korean film industry, Hwang Jung-min ("Ode to My Father") – as well as one of its most promising up-and-coming talents, Jung Woo ("C'est Si Bon"), "The Himalayas" tells a beautiful tale of the power of friendship's ability to overcome all obstacles.

"The Himalayas" is directed by Lee Seok-hoon, known for 2014's swashbuckling comedy "Pirates", one of the top 20 most-watched films of all time in Korea.
