The Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF) and the Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate to help build a network of genre filmmakers and between their two industries.

NAFF comprises the It Project market, forums and Fantastic Film School programs of the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan), while HAF runs a project market alongside the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF).

The MOU, which took effect from July 1, is anticipated to establish a more formal relationship between the two film festivals. It highlights developing ties between genre film producers and directors from both project markets and actively conducting financial and academic exchanges.

Also, according to the agreement, NAFF will create a NAFF Award at HAF starting next year, and invite the winner to the following It Project market.

PiFan festival director KIM Young-bin said, "We hope this partnership between PiFan and HKIFF will strengthen the roles of the two festivals' project markets in leading the development of Asian cinema, and that through this opportunity, Asian films will leap up another level to become the center of the global film industry's market".

HKIFF executive director Roger GARCIA said, "as HAF moves towards its 10th Anniversary in 2012, we look forward to the cross-fertilization of projects and talent between ourselves and NAFF that is the key to any international collaboration. Our partnership will continue to expand the support and possibilities that we are making available to filmmakers around the region".

The 36th HKIFF will be held March 21 – April 5, 2012 while HAF will run parallel March 19 – 21.

The 15th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) runs July 14 – 24 with the closing awards ceremony on July 22. NAFF will run parallel July 17 – 20.

Roger Garcia and HKIFF program manager Bede Cheng will be in attendance at this year's NAFF to celebrate the new collaboration between the two festivals.
