[Movie] The Korean Superhero Movie "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" Draws In Over 5.2 Million Viewers

The movie "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" will be made into a comic book series. And the series will also be downloaded and provided as a subscription-based online service.

Hit movies and TV dramas are often as adapted into novels or comic books. But the comic book series "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" is a special case since it is not a one-time publication of a single comic book that usually coincides with the release of the movie. Instead, it will be a long-running, 3-season series.

Starting January 25, the first season of the comic book series "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" will become available on Gom TV, and around 90 web hard and P2P service providers. The anti-piracy viewer file will be built in the series when subscribers download it. Given frequent download of contents, the online service will be provided first, later followed by publication of the book when each season is finished.

The comic book series will borrow most of details from the film while a little extra focus will be placed upon the fight between "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" and the Goblins, and the romance between Jeon Woo-chi and Seo In-gyeong. The comic book series has slight twists in the characters and their relationships.

For example, Seo In-gyeong (played by Lim Soo-jung) is the daughter of Hwa Dam (played by Kim Yun-seok), while Cho Raeng-yi (played by Yoo Hae-jin) is a horse-human instead of a dog-human, making the story even more intriguing. The series takes full advantage of what is possible only in a comic book, stretching the non-fictional entertainment far beyond the movie.

The series is not a simple adaptation of the film into a comic book format, but a completely new creation with a restructured story. Comic books are often made into movies or TV dramas but the opposite case is rather uncommon. In this sense, it is a meaningful attempt signaling the possibility of further diversifying sources of content and the way it can be utilized.

The movie "JEON WOO CHI : The Taoist Wizard" has been dominating the box office along with the mega hit Avatar, bringing in approximately 5.2 million people as of January 20.
