Movie director Im Kwon-taek's retrospective film screening takes place in Shanghai too.

Following his special retrospective movie screening in the 55th Berlin International Film Festival, movie director Im Kwon-taek's retrospective film screening takes place in the Shanghai International Film Festival also to be held on the forthcoming June 11-19.

Director Im's retrospective film screening is a special event that the Shanghai Film Festival has prepared to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Chinese movie birth.

In Shanghai, his six films including "Low Life", "Chihwaseon", "The General's Son", and "Chunhyang" will be screened.

Chihwaseon is describing a plot that an uncouth, self-taught painter explores his natural talent amidst the repressive world around him in a time of political and social unrest in 19th century Korea.

In director Im's movie "Chunhyang", Mongryong marries the beautiful Chunhyang without telling his father, the Governor of Namwon.

When his father is transferred to Seoul, Mongryong has to leave Chunhyang and finish his exams. Chunhyang, being the daughter of a courtesan, is also legally a courtesan.

She is beaten and imprisoned when she refuses to obey the new Governor Byun, as she wishes to be faithful to her husband.

After three years, Mongryong passes his exam and becomes an emissary to the King. He returns to Namwon, disguised as a beggar, just before Chunhyang is to be flogged to death at the governor's birthday celebration.
