Expectation of increased entry by Korea's CG companies into Hollywood
Korea's CG technology received high praise from Hollywood – the film industry's powerhouse – increasing the chances of Korean companies gaining a strong foothold in the U.S. market.
From Nov. 4 to 8, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister: Yu In-Chon) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA President & CEO Lee Jae-woong) held a business meeting between 7 domestic CG companies and related film industry professionals at the American Film Market (AFM), which is one of the top three film markets in the world.
Through the meeting, a total of 122 contract negotiations were made, including negotiation involving local film personnel like Arnold Rifkin, who produced the movie 'Die Hard'. Additionally, 7 companies held negotiations worth 113.9 billion won with Hollywood film companies, including an LOI (Letter of Intent) of EON Digital Films (CEO Cheong Sung-Jin), in charge of the CG for the movie 'National Team' for a science fiction movie being filmed in Hollywood.
A person who participated in the business meeting said that the related personnel from Hollywood viewed the movies and dramas shown by the Korean companies and expressed their admiration about their CG technology.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency will provide continuous support by establishing mid-long term plans for the promotion of Korea's CG industry, developing element technologies, training advanced talent and bidding for overseas orders and joint production.
