The making-of-film DVD of the movie "April Snow", starring Bae Yong-joon, has become the first Korean-made DVD and the first ever making-of-film DVD to top the Oricon chart in Japan after its release there on Sept 7.
Sankei Sports reported on Sept. 13 that the DVD entitled "Documentary 'April Snow' -- Bae Yong-joon's Charm" took the first spot on the Oricon DVD chart. "Some 67,000 copies of the DVD were sold, making it the first Korean-made DVD to top the Oricon chart", wrote the newspaper.
Before "April Snow", the highest that Korean-made DVDs had reached in Japan was the second spot on the Oricon chart -- achieved by the movies "Shiri" and "Untold Scandal" and actor kwon Sang-woo's DVD "KSW/kwon Sang-woo".
Sankei Sports also added that it was the first time a making-of-film, not a movie, topped the Oricon chart, which is quite unprecedented given that the highest spot reached by a Japanese making-of-film DVD so far was the fourth spot on the chart, achieved by the Japanese DVD "Pikanchi".
"April Snow" opens in Japan on Sept. 17.
