[Lily's Take] Update on Han Ye-seul's Heartbreaking Medical Accident

On April 20^th, actress Han Ye-seul posted a picture of her scar and infection on Instagram with a message expressing her frustration and heartbreak. At first, the netizens were startled at a rather disturbing photo, but soon after reading her message, everyone was furious towards such irresponsible doctors and the hospital.

Few weeks ago, Han Ye-seul had a surgery on her lipoma, which is a fatty lump most often situated between the skin and underlying muscle layer. Normally, surgery on a lipoma isn't necessary, but in Han Ye-seul's case, her lipoma was rather large, about 5 to 8cm in size, and bulging out of her skin. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful as a result of a medical accident. Though it's been two weeks since her surgery, her side has a huge scar and stitches along with what seems to be an infection.

Her message on the post reads:

"I experienced a medical accident when I had a surgery on my lipoma.

It's been two weeks since the accident but there's no words of compensation nor reimbursement. As I head out for treatment every day, my heart is breaking to no end. Honestly, I don't think any compensation will be of any comfort to me".

Since her first post, her doctor who operated the surgery appeared on a YouTube medical channel ran by a fellow doctor on April 21st, and shared, "[Regarding the accident] I've apologized to Han Ye-seul many times, but my heart is still heavy. I've done some finishing touch on her scar on Thursday, but she's at a different hospital for treatment now. I'm deeply sorry to damage an actress who's loved by everyone. I'd like to express another apology to Han Ye-seul".

Such apology seemed light-hearted to many people and soon, the doctor faced furious comments from the netizens for such informal apology over a YouTube channel, not even an official statement.

On April 23^rd, another picture was shared by Han Ye-seul and her infection have become worse. This time, the picture has truly shocked everyone. Her caption reads, "This is a picture from today. ... really.. my heart is breaking".

This is a big problem for anyone, especially for an actress like her. The netizens are sending her their most sincere sympathy and encouragements for her. In fact, since her original post, there's a movement that started on behalf of the actress, a national petition has been filed. Since April 20^th, there have been 5 posts on national petition website using the keyword "Han Ye-seul" and 609 posts using the keyword "medical accident".

Since such a big movement is underway, the hospital has finally released an official apology statement today, assuring the actress and the netizens that she will receive the most effective and professional aftercare treatment and apologizing for both physical and emotional damage Han Ye-seul had to experience. The hospital is experiencing huge repercussions as people began boycotting the hospital.

After the statement by the hospital, Han Ye-seul posted a selfie on her Instagram account with a short caption expressing her gratitude for the fans saying, "Thank you. I'll be strong". Unlike her usual bright smiles in previous posts on her Instagram, she looks exhausted and sad.
