The festival's organizing committee on Thursday announced the lineup of films for the competition category.

"Burning" is Lee's first film in eight years since "Poetry" in 2010. The mystery drama, starring Yoo Ah-in and Hollywood actor Steven Yeun, is based on the short story "Barn Burning" written by Haruki Murakami.

This is the third time Lee has been invited to the competition section of the film festival. His 2007 film "Secret Sunshine" earned Jeon Do-yeon the best actress award, and he won the best screenplay award for "Poetry" in 2010.

In 2011, he was selected as head of the jury for the International Critics' Week section.

Meanwhile, "The Spy Gone North", directed by Yoon Jong-bin, will be screened in the festival's Midnight Screenings, a non-competition section.

The film revolves around a South Korean secret agent, who infiltrates North Korea to obtain information on the North's nuclear weapons programs. It stars Hwang Jung-min, Lee Sung-min, Cho Jin-woong and Ju Ji-hoon.
