Leap from comedy to the big screen

Ahn Sun-young, 28, known as Korea's sexiest comedienne, made her onscreen debut in the popular Romantic Comedy "My Little Bride", charming the audiences with her natural talent. Ahn played the quirky Ms. Kim, a high school teacher to the character portrayed by Moon Geun-young, star of "A Tale of Two Sisters".
"Many viewers aren't aware that I've actually majored in theater, because they think that I'm just a comedienne. In reality, I am an actress with a sense of humor, not a comedienne who can act", Ahn said in an interview with The Korea Herald.
Director Kim Ho-jun had Ahn in mind for the supporting role, knowing her presence would enhance the quality of the film.
Showing a sexy, vulnerable side of Ms. Kim, who vies for the attention of Kim Rae-won's character, Ahn says having high school teacher friends helped her prepare for the role.
"Female schoolteachers are always hiding their true passions, but they want to have fun like the rest of us. I especially know this because one of my good friends from Busan is a schoolteacher and single - it's lonely. I wanted to show that teachers can also be sexy and likable, paying attention to their appearance, and in need of attention themselves", she said with a smile.
For Ahn, being on film was her main aspiration, but her talent for making people laugh became her first claim to fame. "I became a comedienne by mistake, when I helped a friend of mine for his comedy audition and the judges hired me instead", she said.
Already, Ahn is receiving scripts for upcoming film productions, so her movie career is taking off. But as a thespian at heart, Ahn will also be starring in a musical this summer. The details will be announced next month.
"Being on the stage is my passion, so I am looking forward to the new challenge of singing and dancing live for audiences. I am very pleased", she said.
For future performances, Ahn will steer clear of drama queen roles, saying, "I want to portray characters who are entertaining. That's my strength. Though people may call me the 'sexy comedienne,' I don't consider myself that way, so I'll keep my clothes on. I want to be recognized as a serious actress", she explained.
