KTO to Promote Korea as Wellness Destination

The increase in life expectancy has brought growing demand for wellness tourism.

The Korea Tourism Organization has selected 41 facilities across the country since 2017 to respond to the demand and promote Korea as a top destination for travelers seeking physical and spiritual regeneration.

The candidates were put forward by five regional tourism organizations and whittled down by a group of tourism and wellness experts who visited each one with an eye to a particularly Korea appeal.

They offer a wide variety of services based on four themes -- traditional Korean medicine, healing and meditation, beauty and spa, and nature and forest.

The KTO will support the facilities by promoting them at international tourism fairs, on domestic and international TV shows and new media, and improving hospitality for foreigners.

"Although Korea is globally less well known for wellness tourism, it has been receiving positive reviews from visitors", said Kim Jung-ah at the KTO. "We will make every effort to attract not only domestic but also foreign tourists and develop wellness tourism as a main tourism sector with a global reach".
