Korean Ski Resorts With Various Themes

South Korea is a country with four distinctive seasons, and in the wintertime many people visit the ski resorts to enjoy the most popular winter sports, skiing and snowboarding.

In Korea today there are 17 ski resorts in operation and each resort possesses its own unique theme. Today, we will introduce you to the most exciting attractions of Korean ski resorts.

The picture below shows Korea's most symbolic ski resort, the 'YongPyong Resort'. It was the first ski resort in Korea to be opened in 1975, and as the mecca of the sport in Korea ever since, it has led the development and popularization of skiing.

Fit for its name as the largest ski resort in Korea, the resort features 28 different slopes and 15 different sets of ski lifts including a gondola that reaches 3.7km one-way, and a huge number of skiers visit each year.

In addition, Yongpyong resort is renown world-wide for successfully holding international events such as the 'World Cup Ski Racing' and the 'Winter Asian Games', made possible by the various types of slopes and the exceptional quality of snow. Most notably, Japanese tourists visit the resort very frequently.

 

The image above shows YongPyong Resort's "Rainbow Slope". It is a slope that has gained international approval from the International Ski Federation, and it is one of the slopes reputed to be the best slope in Korea by skiers and snowboarders both domestically and internationally. Isn't the scenery of the slope magnificent as well?

This is a photo of Soo-ji Kim in the Korean national team, swiftly speeding down the slope during the giant slalom racing at the '2012 Fila Cup FIS YongPyong International Alpine Ski Racing' which took place on the Rainbow Slope at the YongPyong Resort.

Along with the Yon Pyong Resort with its high quality snow and various slopes, there are other ski attractions that gear to the interests of a very diverse pool of skiers and snowboarders.

Here you can see the half-pipe course at Vivaldi Park of Daemyung Resort.

This half-pipe is one of the best in the world, attracting snowboarders and hosting various kinds of contests every year.

Where does this vertiginous ski schanze with its steep slope belong to? It belongs to the Alpensia Ski Resort. Located in PyeongChang of Gangwon Province. This schanze will be used at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. Soon enough, athletes from different countries around the world will compete for the best record on it.

Another interesting fact is that this schanze was the filming site of the very heart-warming Korean movie played in 2009, "Take Off", and many tourists are visiting it through word-of-mouth.

Do you like the Korean ski resorts so far, with their superior quality of snow and assorted slopes? However it does not end here. The ski resorts of Korea also sport? support different kinds of facilities to meet the needs of skiers who would be exhausted after a long day of skiing and snowboarding.

 

To satisfy the needs of skiers after skiing, most Korean ski resorts have added entertainment facilities such as swimming pools, golf courses, bowling alleys, billiards rooms, and arcades where people can mingle with one another. Don't you think that every tourists who choose not to ski could also enjoy their days inside the resorts?  

These photos were taken at the 'Blue Canyon' located in PyeongChang of Gangwon Province. Blue Canyon is a kind of a water theme park where summertime visitors can enjoy all kinds of rides or play in the water while in the wintertime they can live it up with spas, saunas, and sports massage.

Enjoy outdoor skiing and then come to take a rest at the spa and sauna. Wouldn't it be most ideal ski trip ever?
