Korean Movie "The Host" to Hit U.S. Theaters on March 9

Korean director, Bong Joon-ho's critically acclaimed blockbuster, "The Host", which attracted record breaking 13 million moviegoers in Korea last year is to be featured in the U.S. theaters on March 9.

According to the movie's U.S. distributor, Magnolia Pictures ( http://www.magpictures.com ), 68 theaters across the nation will feature "The Host" starting on March 9. By May 4, total of 122 theaters in the U.S. will show the featured film.

Among all the Korean films released in the U.S., "The Host" will have the most number of theaters playing the movie. The film is to be released internationally in March which includes Spain, Germany, China, and Australia.

Melbourne-based daily, The Age, writes, "It might have been made economically, but it's full of excess in every other way: it's an exhilarating mixture of the ordinary and the extraordinary, a clever blend of genres, tones and moods".

Prior to the movie's debut date, three special screenings with the director are scheduled in New York, Chicago, and in San Francisco.

At the screening, the director Bong Joon-ho's previous movies will also be featured: "Memories of Murder (2003)" and "Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000)". The New York screening was held on February 25. On March 3, he is scheduled for Chicago followed by San Francisco appearance on March 5. At the San Francisco event, director Bong will hold a session with the audience to share about his work.

The story of "The Host" is about a five-member family that runs a kiosk alongside Seoul's Han River and loses its only daughter to a monster, which suddenly appears and destroys the tranquility of the riverside.

"The Host" was highly praised by movie critics when it was introduced at the 59th Cannes International Film Festival in France last year.
