Korean films top video market

strength of Korean films in the theatrical market was closely matched by their performance in the video market in 2003. According to figures compiled from Jan. 1 - Dec. 20, 2003 by the video chain Cinetown, which runs 589 stores across the country, Korean films accounted for the seven most frequently rented titles. In the previous year, Korean films accounted for the top four slots, and six of the top ten.

In an odd coincidence, foreign titles then accounted for the 8-15 slots, with Steven Spielberg's Minority Report the most frequently rented Hollywood film.

Among the 100 most frequently rented movies, Korean films accounted for 37 titles, one less than last year. U.S. films made up 52 of the total (including co-productions), with the remainder divided among Germany (6 films), the UK (5 films), France (4 films), Japan (3 films), Canada (2 films), and New Zealand (2 films).
