Korean-American Director Wins Top Prizes at Sundance Film Festival

Korean-American director Lee Isaac Chung's "Minari" won the top prizes at this year's Sundance Film Festival on Saturday.

The annual independent film festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals in North America along with the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

"Minari" won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic competition, which are considered the festival's top prizes.

Based on Chung's own childhood, the autobiographical film, starring Steven Yeun and Han Ye-ri, tells the story of a Korean family who move to Arkansas in the 1980s in pursuit of the American dream.

Meanwhile, director Kim Yong-hoon-I's "Beasts Clawing at Straws" won the Special Jury Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands on Friday.

The crime thriller starring Jeon Do-yeon and Jung Woo-sung revolves around various people who chase after a bag full of cash, each for their own reason.
