Korea reclaimed the No. 1 spot for global shipbuilding orders from China last month.
Data released on Tuesday by U.K.-based Clarkson Research Services shows Korea won orders totaling 1.29 million compensated gross tons, up a whopping 324 percent on-year, while in value terms, they rose 287 percent to US$2.6 billion.
Korea accounted for 86 percent of the global total, securing orders for 17 vessels including 11 bulk carriers and four LNG tankers.
China came next with 150,000 CGTs, followed by Japan with 30,000 CGTs.
In the first 10 months of the year, Korea accounted for 39 percent or 6.95 million CGTs of global orders, followed by China with 35 percent, Italy (13 percent) and Japan (6 percent).
