Actor Kim Soo-hyun has been voted "Man of the Year" in a recent online poll conducted by Radio Television Hong Kong.

Kim has been at the forefront of the latest generation of the Korean Wave thanks to the immense popularity across Asia of the hit TV series "My Love from the Star", which aired early last year.

Kevin Lau, former chief editor of prominent Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao, and Steve Hui Chun-tak, chief superintendent at the Public Relations Bureau of the Hong Kong Police, came next.

Lau made headlines when he was stabbed by two men on his way to work in February last year, and Hui frequently appeared on TV during the recent pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong.

Chinese media took the poll result as proof of Kim's enduring popularity, which has lasted far longer than the drama he first appeared in.

Of more than 96,000 votes cast between Dec. 2 and 21, Kim earned over 27,000, or 28 percent, to top the list.

Other prominent figures in the running were gymnast Shek Wai-hung, Hong Kong's first ever Asian Games gold medalist; Brazilian football star Neymar; and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
