Kim Ki-duk's Film Will Open Karlovy Film Festival

"Time", a new film by director Kim Ki-duk, will open the 41st Karlovy Vary International Film Festival next month in the Czech Republic.

Jiri Bartoska, president of the festival, said on its official Web site, http://www.kviff.com , "It is an honor for us that this year's festival will start off with the world premiere of a new film by Kim Ki-duk".

Kim said it gives him great pleasure that his film has been invited as the opening film this year.

The film by Kim, who gained international recognition by dealing with controversial issues, is about a couple's fading love and the extreme measures they take during their relationship crisis. Actress Sung Hyun-ah and actor Ha Jung-woo star in the leading roles.

Kim was invited to the 2003 festival with the 2002 film "The Coast Guard" and won three awards, including the Karlovy Vary Award. His previous films were also screened in a restropective.
