Korean actor Jung Woo-sung will be lending his starpower to advertise Guinness beers, which produces world-famous dry stout beers.

This is the first time that the Irish beermaker has hired an Asian star to promote the brand, perhaps in a bid to seize Korea's alcoholic drinks market.

Jeong will be filming television commercials and get involved in various online and offline activities starting next week.

Yesterday, Guinness kicked off a promotional campaign called "Catch Jung Woo-sung... You have only 119.5 seconds", where people were asked to post comments for the actor on the official website (www.guinness.com).

The winner of the campaign (and his 'plus one') will be given an opportunity to go on an actual date with Jeong. The first five thousand participants will also receive gift certificates for free Rotiboy coffee buns and Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Jeong, 37, has starred in numerous Korean films including "Beat" (1997) and the critically acclaimed "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" (2008) alongside Song Kang-ho and Lee Byung-hun.

He made his first English-speaking feature film appearance through "Season of Good Rain" last year, which was directed by South Korean filmmaker Heo Jin-ho and co-starred Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan.

The actor is set to make his international debut through John Woo's martial arts pic "Reign of Assassins", due out in Korea in August.
