JEEWON'S PICKS wrap

Welcome back.
It's time for our weekly culture corner and our resident reporter Lee Jeewon joins me in the studio.
Good morning Jeewon.
Hi Sunhee.

Our first item is the latest rendition of a Korean poem written in 17-45 which later branched out to become novels songs and performing arts pieces.
With more than 280 different editions the story of Chunhyang is titled either Chunhyang-ga or Chunhyang-jeon depending on the genre.
It's a love story between a daughter of a former Gisaeng or Korean geisha and an aristocratic member of the literati during the Joseon Dynasty.
The National Theater of Korea showcases its Korean classical opera version until tomorrow.
It premiered in 19-02 and has improved over the years.
This year's production team has replaced Chinese proverbs with modern language to make it easier to understand and casts multiple storytellers for the same reason.

Interesting and I think Korea's performing arts scene could use more traditional Korean cultural works.
True it's a bit lacking in that area.

Now let's move onto yet another traditional performing arts show this time from Italy.
The Korea Opera Group will showcase Aida and Turandot at the so-called Pizzi Festival.
Maestro Pier Luigi Pizzi is in the country to conduct the two Operas scheduled for every other night starting Tuesday.
The latest version of the works premiered at the 2006 Macerata Opera Festival and the same stagecraft and costumes will be used in Seoul.
I see so watching the original Italian version only at a different venue.
So any outstanding aspect to the performances Jeewon Oh I was just about to mention that Sunhee.
Audience members should pay special attention to the color scheme.
It's a fierce combination of gold red blueblack and white.

So we have something traditional from both the East and West.
What else do you have for us The next two items include booze and gold.

The National Museum of Korea is showcasing relics from Persia over a span of 12 centuries when it was one of the world's biggest empires.
And for two days starting today there is an expo on wines and spirits.
And guess what Sunhee Yum yum!
Well our time is almost up so tell us what's playing on the big screen this weekend.
Sure Sunhee.
There's an action flick and a French comedy.

The Wachowski brothers are back with "Speed Racer" after a string of successes with "The Matrix" series.
A number of famous Hollywood actors star in the movie including Christina Ricci and Matthew Fox.
Fans of Korean pop culture will also catch some familiar faces namely Rain and former G.O.D. singer Park Joon-hyung.
In our next movie French actress Audrey Tautou very popular here in Korea stars in "Priceless".
She plays a sexy guest at a resort who mistakenly has a fling with a hotel employee.
That's all I have for you this week.
Thanks as always and see you next Friday.
