[Ishani's Picks] Top 5 Supporting Characters in Ongoing K-Dramas That Are Absolute Scene Stealers

A K-Drama will never be complete without the crucial contribution of a supporting cast. They are key to the world-building of the story and allow viewers to immerse themselves in the same. More often than not, they endear themselves to the audience just as much if not more than the main characters. Here are my picks for the top 5 supporting characters in ongoing K-Dramas that are just amazing!

Jeong Myeong-seok - "Extraordinary Attorney Woo"

Senior attorney at Hanbada, Jang Myeong-seok, played by Kang Ki-young is a refreshingly lovely character. He is initially prejudiced against Woo Young-woo (Park Eun-bin) for being an attorney with autism spectrum disorder and undermines her competence but is quick to correct himself when he realizes how baseless his discrimination is. He is deeply supportive of Woo Young-woo and not only encourages her but also learns from her. Kang Ki-young's signature comedic timing is excellent as always, making him a fan favourite.

Gong Soo-cheol - "Cafe Minamdang"

Gong Soo-cheol, played by Kwak Si-yang, brings love and laughter to the screen whenever he makes an appearance. What makes him so endearing is the way he can be adorable and clueless but is actually incredibly skilled and intelligent. Seeing Kwak Si-yang in such a different light is supremely entertaining and his acting is definitely worth high praise.

Kim Do-joo - "Alchemy of Souls"

Played by the incredible Oh Na-ra, Kim Do-joo served as maidservant to Lady Do-hwa (Bae Gang-hee) and raised Jang Uk (Lee Jae-wook) like a mother. She is affectionate and loving but also strict and sassy. She could go to the ends of the world for Jang Uk but doesn't hesitate to put him in his place. It is a sheer delight to see her dynamic with the other characters, especially with Jang Uk and Park Jin (Yu Jun-sang).

Hong Bok-hee & Na Choon-ok - "Link: Eat, Love, Kill"

Two of the most memorable characters from "Link: Eat, Love, Kill" are Hong Bok-hee and Na Choon-ok. Hong Bok-hee, played wonderfully by Kim Ji-young, is the feisty and short-tempered mother of No Da-hyeon (Mun Ka-young), and Na Choon-ok, played by the venerable Ye Soo-jung, is the composed and calculative grandmother of Da-hyeon. Together, they make the most iconic trio that I just can't get enough of.
