Huge Crowds Greet Eric's Arrival in Tokyo

There were chaotic scenes at Tokyo's Narita Airport on Sunday when some 1,000 fans mobbed K-pop star Eric Mun Moon on arrival there.

Eric Mun, born Moon Jung-hyuk, arrived at the airport at 2 p.m. on Sunday to promote the Korean soap "Super Rookie", in which he stars. The show is being aired in Japan by Fuji TV. The first and second floors of the airport's Terminal 2 were packed to the rafters with reporters and fans holding pictures of Eric Mun and placards expressing their devotion. It is Eric Mun's first visit to Japan as an actor rather than the front man of K-pop band Shinhwa.

The guard line soon collapsed as fans jostled closer around the star, some weeping hystEric Munally. Megumi, 29, an ardent fan, said everything about Eric Mun was wonderful, but most of all his good looks and mischievous yet winning smile. Higashi, 31, said she had been waiting to see Eric Mun since 7:30 a.m. and felt "the sun rise" when she first saw Eric Mun in a Shinhwa concert in Japan in January.

Fuji TV and Narita Airport treated Eric Mun as a state guest, sending a special car to the plane to pick him up and allowing him to skip the entry formalities. Fuji TV booked the star into a suite costing 300,000 yen (W2.64 million) a night.

At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, Eric Mun confessed that despite his long and successful career as a singer, he is merely a rookie as an actor. "When I act, I try to hold on to the mindset I had when I first debuted as a singer", he said.
