Cameron Mackintosh Inc, the producer of "Miss Saigon" in the U.K., recently announced that Hong will play Thuy for the new production, which will return to the West End for the musical's 25th anniversary year at the Prince Edward Theatre on May 3.

The producer said Hong has "become one of the top musical actors in Korea where his roles include the roles of 'The phantom' and 'Raoul' in 'The Phantom of the Opera'." His talent is very wide-ranging, it added.

KCMI, a Korean musical production company that represented Hong during his auditions in the U.K., said, "Mackintosh decided to cast Hong just after watching his video".

Hong majored in theater studies at Chungang University and made his musical debut in 2002 with "The Last Empress". During the Korean premier of "Miss Saigon" in 2006, he played the role of Thuy as well as understudy of the main character Chris.

Thuy is a tragic character who dies while trying to keep his promise with Kim, whom he was arranged to marry since childhood.
