[HanCinema's News] "When the Camellia Blooms" Wins Big at the Seoul International Drama Awards

The Seoul International Drama Awards were held last week. While "When the Camellia Blooms" was one of the further major South Korean dramas in recent memory, the drama did excellently for itself coming up on the one year anniversary of its first broadcast. Gong Hyo-Jin Won for best actress and Lim Sang-choon won best screenwriter, persevering against international competition.

In the domestic categories, "When the Camellia Blooms" also won for best overall drama and best original song. Lead actor Kang Ha-neul also won for best actor. Son Ye-jin of "Crash Landing on You" won for best actress. Elsewhere in the international categories, "Everything and Nothing" was the runner-up for best TV movie while "Itaewon Class" was the runner-up for best TV drama. The web drama "XX" also received a Jury Special Prize.

The People's Choice for Most Popular Foreign Drama also had some surprising selections. An American television adaptation of "Snowpiercer" and a Filipino television adaptation of "Descendants of the Sun" were victorious in the category. It was unclear if the voters in the category had actually seen the dramas in question or if they were voting based off of their familiarity with the original South Korean versions.
