[HanCinema's News] "The King: Eternal Monarch" Filming Location Revealed But Closed Down

On May 23rd the proposal scene in the most recent episode of "The King: Eternal Monarch" gathered much attention from viewers thanks to its beautiful shooting location. "The King: Eternal Monarch" quickly confirmed that the scene was filmed at the Munsan Cathedral Complex in Jinju. But only two days later, on May 25th, the complex had to clarify that it was closed for tourist visits due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

It's an awkward place for the city of Jinju to be in, but an avoidable one. Obscure regions in South Korea frequently lend some of their more distinctive sights for local dramas in the hopes of inciting tourists to visit from near and far. The production schedule of "The King: Eternal Monarch" was long fixed in advance. So the bad timing was inevitable for several months at this point.

The Munsan Cathedral Complex in Jinju was constructed in 1905. It boasts a distinctive mix of both Catholic architecture and traditional Korean architectural styles of the time. It was registered as cultural heritage site no. 35 of Southern Gyeongsang province back in 2002. Under normal circumstances it is a popular local tourism site.
