[HanCinema's News] Park Ji-ah Talks About "The Glory"

While "The Glory" has been noteworthy for its impact on the career of many of its performers, perhaps none has been as noteworthy as Park Ji-ah, who plays the role of the mother of the lead character played by Song Hye-kyo. Park Ji-ah plays a very unpleasant woman, who sells out her own daughter for hard cash both in the backstory of the drama, as well as in the second part in the present day. Park Ji-ah recently discussed her experiences in an interview.

Park Ji-ah claimed that she didn't have a favorite moment, as all of them were a lot of fun, and that she gave her best in every scene. While Park Ji-ah did claim that some moments were regrettable, she didn't see any point in dwelling on what's already over and done with. Consequently, Park Ji-ah has no regrets and "The Glory" at large has a lot of personal meaning for her. Additionally, Park Ji-ah claims that parts of her character linger with her.

Park Ji-ah stated that she only realized the character was still with her after the first part of the drama was released last year. Park Ji-ah claimed to have a similar reaction when the second part came out a few weeks ago, noting that she could not completely send her friend away. Park Ji-ah said that she worried a lot after landing the role, comparing her anticipation to that of a more physically oriented athlete. The nervousness was prompted by the knowledge of her character's potential impact.

Park Ji-ah was intrigued by her character by just asking, what made this woman the way she is? Park Ji-ah claimed that her acting technique was to find the fun in a character, and that this role offered many possible opportunities for that. Park Ji-ah described herself as searching for coins in the sand, trying to exhaust every possibility for just what it was that motivated her character. Alcoholism has been one common theory for why she acted the way she did.

Yet Park Ji-ah herself is doubtful to that explanation, saying that it seemed too derivative. Park Ji-ah wanted to focus on what made this person, Jeong-hee as she described her, emotional in the way she was. Park Ji-ah thought that this focus would prevent her from getting distracted by the character's core. After all, Park Ji-ah did not think that greed alone was a sufficient motivator in "The Glory" for her own character any more than any other.
