[HanCinema's News] Olleh TV Finds Success With Screening South Korean Films

A financial report from KT shows that the media group has found significant success by branding itself as a platform with strong access to South Korean films. Seventy of the top one hundred movies available on the platform are from South Korea, with "Extreme Job" holding the pole position with 550,000 requested screenings.

A review of the most well represented actors and directors showed that the most highly represented professionals were not necessarily the most famous. Cho Jin-woong is the most frequently appearing actor on the platform with ten films to his credit - "Believer", "The Spy Gone North", and "Intimate Strangers" among them. Director Yoon Jong-bin of "Nameless Gangster", "KUNDO : Age of the Rampant", and "The Spy Gone North" was the most frequently appearing director with those three titles.

This suggests that, "Extreme Job" notwithstanding, Olleh TV has been succeeding based on the depth of its lineup rather than specific major titles. Though "Extreme Job" earned 4.5 million dollars for the service, all seventy South Korean films in the top 100 earned a total of 100 million dollars, suggesting there is significantly more parity in the streaming market compared to the theatrical one.
