[HanCinema's News] "#ALIVE" Confirmed for Release on June 24th

An online press conference for the upcoming movie "#ALIVE" confirmed that the zombie flick starring Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye in the leading roles would open in South Korean theaters on June 24th. This appears to confirm confidence that the South Korean box office will finally reopen to film releases decisively by the end of the month.

The press conference was conducted via YouTube Live and appeared to suggest that in addition to being a zombie action thriller with social media themes "#ALIVE" would also be a romance. Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye are both major stars in their early thirties who have gone some time without a high profile release.

This was not by design. Park Shin-hye also had a starring role in "The Call", which was to be released earlier this year, but had to be put on indefinite delay due to COVID-19. Ironically enough, "#ALIVE" appears to be moving according to its original release timetable in part because of the movie's obvious relevance in the COVID-19 era. Social isolation and loneliness are important themes of the movie, as the main characters are unable to leave their homes to the outside physical danger.

Purportedly Yoo Ah-in and Park Shin-hye have excellent chemistry in "#ALIVE", a point deliberately highlighted by their doing the press conference together and being able to physically interact and play off of one another. "#ALIVE" will be the first genre project for Yoo Ah-in and the first action project for Park Shin-hye, and as such has accumulated intense interest from fans of both stars.
