[HanCinema's News] Goo Ha-ra's Brother Expresses Disgust at her Ex-boyfriend Ahead of Appeal

After Goo Ha-ra's tragic death last year many were quick to blame K-pop as an industry for her mental health issues as well as malicious commenters. But those close to Goo Ha-ra have long emphasized that her real troubles started with an abusive ex-boyfriend and his threats to reveal a sex tape of the starlet. Now, ahead of his appeal, Goo Ha-ra's older brother has reignited disgust toward the ex-boyfriend in a brutal Instagram post released on April 6th.

Goo Ha-ra's brother begins the post by lamenting that far from facing any consequences after his first trial, Goo Ha-ra's ex-boyfriend opened a hair salon and had a welcoming party. While Goo Ha-ra's brother acknowledged that the ex-boyfriend was found not guilty of secretly recording Goo Ha-ra, he had acknowledged culpability for threatening her and being violent toward her. The condition of his release was contingent on his expressing remorse, which he has made no apparent effort to do.

Goo Ha-ra's brother expressed hopes that justice would be better served at the second trial, which is expected on May 21st. Much of Goo Ha-ra's brother's post also struck a feminist tone. He expressed regret not just of the treatment of his sister, but also of society's light treatment of dating violence at large. Goo Ha-ra's brother thanked those who continue to love and miss Goo Ha-ra.

In a post-script Goo Ha-ra's brother also thanked readers for signing his position to force the government to consider a Goo Ha-ra law, which would prevent parents from automatically inheriting their children's wealth when they die. Purportedly their parents were not supportive of them as children, particularly their mother. Goo Ha-ra's brother hopes to develop a charitable foundation in his sister's name with his father's share of the inheritance money, which their father gave to him.
